
don't you realize that anonymity is not to be confused with pseudonymity? and that "the internets" are not some melting pot where wikipedia-ing is the same as cybersex with strangers is the same as myspace is the same as jezebel.com.
i know i might be far too utopian about the internet (reminding me of the ugg&baseballcap-wearing kids who only check facebook and think people who use the internet more than that are just "geeks" and "don't have any friends" — oh, and fat, too? plus they couldn't stop talking about rushing out of college into those 40hrweek jobs! that class sucked). but i'm just irritated that this man is probably making a bajillion dollars asking rhetorical questions about isolation and "virtual selves" that have been answered far more scientifically, far more legitimately, by people who aren't in it for the popular vote, since the goddamn 1970s. lee siegel, this is all i know about you and i guess i'm just not impressed.
